When I was a kid we played 3 games. Chess, spades, and Risk.

All are games of strategy.

How to play the game of Risk in a nutshell…

Risk is a strategy board game of diplomacy, conflict and conquest for two to six players. The game is played on a board depicting a political map of the world, divided into forty-two territories, which are grouped into six continents. Turns rotate among players who control armies of playing pieces with which they attempt to capture territories from other players, with results determined by dice rolls.

So now let’s parallel to owning a business or being in leadership of a business.

We mostly played this game as a family but when we had friends over they would play, too. One friend in particular loved the game and wanted to play every time he came over. This friend never won and always complained about his bad luck. Each time we played he might briefly be winning but he would eventually lose all of his armies and the game. Out of five or six people playing, he was frequently the first player eliminated.

After observing his playing style time and time again, I pointed out to him that luck had very little to do with his lack of winning. He didn’t concentrate his armies anywhere and he just winged it.

He was relying on luck, not strategy, and so he always lost.

Come full circle to today and we are working with people to help them formulate sound strategies for their business.

We formed ATLATL Business Solutions to help people get a grip on their business and propel the team forward via these practices.

Reach out if you’d like to talk Risk and/or strategy.
